เป็นเรื่องใกล้ตัวที่หลายคนยังไม่เคยใช้ในการกำหนดคำหรือ Keyword ในการค้นหาข้อมูลที่ต้องการบนเว็บไซต์ที่ yahoo.com หรือ google.com ซึ่งเทคนิคในการค้นหาข้อมูลอย่างเร็วมีข้อแนะนำดังต่อไปนี้- หลีกเลี่ยงการใช้ Keyword ที่มีความหมายกว้าง ๆ เช่น Tour หรือ Thailand หากใช้คำประเภทนี้ค้นหา จะได้ชื่อ Website ออกมาเกิน 100,000 Website ซึ่งยากและเสียเวลาต่อการค้นหาข้อมูลที่ต้องการจริง ๆ จึงควรจำกัดคำให้สั้นลง เช่น thailand package tour 2013 ก็จะเป็นการจำกัดข้อมูลลงได้มาก
- สามารถใช้เครื่องหมายคำพูด “Thailand” เพื่อกำหนดขอบเขตของข้อมูลในการคนหาได้ จะทำให้ได้ผลลัพธ์แคบลง
- ใช้ตรรกศาสตร์เข้าช่วย ได้แก่ AND, NOT, OR หากพิมพ์ Keyword คำว่า Computer AND Hardware ก็แสดงว่า Website ที่จะแสดงออกมาจะต้องมีทั้งคำว่า Computer และ Hardware ปรากฏอยู่ใน Website ดังกล่าว และหากพิมพ์คำว่า Software NOT Macromedia ก็จะหมายถึง Software ที่ไม่ใช่ของบริษัท Macromedia และตรรกศาสตร์ตัวสุดท้าย คือ OR หากพิมพ์คำว่า Macromedia OR Microsoft ก็จะหมายถึงบริษัท Macromedia หรือบริษัท Microsoft อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง เป็นต้น
- การใช้ Wildcard (*) เข้าช่วย เช่น พิมพ์คำว่า Hyper* ก็จะหมายถึง ค้นหาคำอะไรก็ได้ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย Hyper ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้อาจจะเป็น Hypermedia, Hypertext, Hypercard หรือคำอื่น ๆ ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย Hyper
- การใช้เครื่องหมาย + เข้าช่วย เครื่องหมาย + มีผลเหมือนกับ AND เช่น เมื่อพิมพ์คำว่า Tour + Thailand ก็จะหมายถึง การท่องเที่ยวในประเทศไทย หากพิมพ์เพิ่มอีก 1 ประโยคเป็น Tour + Thailand + Chiangmai ก็จะจำกัดผลลัพธ์ให้แคบลงเหลือเฉพาะท่องเที่ยวในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่เท่านั้น นอกจากนี้ยังมีเทคนิคอื่น ๆ อีก ซึ่งใช้ผสมผสานกัน เช่น พิมพ์ขึ้นต้นด้วยตัวอักษรตัวใหญ่ ระบบก็จะเข้าไปหาคำนั้น ๆ ก่อนอักษรตัวเล็ก เป็นต้น ให้ลองฝึกฝนใช้งานดูบ่อย ๆ แล้วจะรู้ว่า Search Engine ก็ฉลาดพอสมควร
